The 253rd Transportation Company (Light Medium Truck) was first constituted and allotted to the New Jersey Army National Guard as Battery C, 308th Antiaircraft Artillery Searchlight Battalion.

The unit was redesigned as Battery C, 308th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion
12 April 1951
Organized and federally recognized at Cape May Point, New Jersey
1 October 1953
Redesigned as Battery C, 308th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion
1 May 1954
Location of the unit was changed to Rio Grande, New Jersey
1 February 1955
Reorganized and redesigned as Service Battery, 286th Armored Field Artillery Battalion
1 March 1959
Unit is again reorganized and redesigned as Service Battalion, 6th Howitzer Battalion, 112th Artillery
1 August 1961
Location of unit changed to it's present location, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.
31 January 1963
Reorganized and redesigned as Battery B, 6th Battalion, 112th Artillery, an element of the 50th Armored Division
1 May 1975
The unit was converted and redesigned as the 253rd Transportation Company (Light Medium Truck) and relieved from assignment to the 50th Armored Division.
27 September 1990
Called to Active Duty in support of Desert Shield
7 November 1990
Deployed to Saudi Arabia where the unit completed over 250,000 miles and hauled over 150,000 tons of cargo in support of the 7th Transportation Group.
16 January 1991
Unit was reassigned to the 82d Airborne Division and served as the "Wheels of the Airborne". The unit became basically a motorized rifle compny, providing the means for the 82d's movement to Iraq. In support of this mission over 15,000 troops and 100 tons of cargo was hauled over 150,000 miles.

The unit was deployed to the United States
30 May 1991
The unit was released from Federal Active Duty.
